During the development process, PSP's researchers identified that Zylon
®, an extremely strong and light ballistic fiber, may degrade over time if exposed to a combination of high heat and high humidity. Through in-house analysis and resulting patented technology, PSP addressed those limitations by incorporating a desiccant material in the design of the ballistic panel and ultrasonically welding a non-breathable nylon pouch around the panel, thus eliminating the risk of exposure to high humidity.
To educate the purchaser and ensure the safety of offices wearing PSP's Zylon
® ballistic solutions, PSP implemented its Zylon
® Integrity Program in January 2002. When a department or agency purchases a PSP Zylon
® product, it is required to participate in an ongoing monitoring program where at pre-determined intervals, the purchaser is requested to provide PSP with a vest from the field which PSP will then test to validate the ballistic panel's performance level. If the level has dropped beyond its certification standards, the department or agency will be provided with the test results and shipped upgrade packs at no charge. Participation in the Zylon
® Integrity Program is mandatory for those purchasing PSP's Zylon
® ballistic solutions. PSP has not seen the performance of its Zylon
® ballistic solutions fall below acceptable standards.
